Exploring part of the Grand Ried by bike guarantees discovering unique heritage sites, riding in a bucolic natural setting of meadows and forest, and witnessing a remarkable fauna and flora.
Several historic monuments line the route and make for must-see stops.
In Sélestat, the visit route on the Lion’s and Giant Sletto’s steps and its two museums (Humanist Library and Alsace Bread House) immerses visitors in fascinating worlds.
In Ebersmunster, the abbey church with its three bell towers and rich interior decoration plunges you into the splendor of the 18th century, while in Baldenheim, the small historic church, open during summer, is a jewel inherited from the Middle Ages decorated with 14th and 15th century murals.
Not to mention, of course, the Mussig tumuli, these circular mounds forming a necropolis dating from 750 to 450 BC.

Several road intersections, as well as the start of the circuit in Sélestat, require maintaining some vigilance.
A short section of the route, after Ebersmunster, is on a shared road.
Roadbook
Sélestat:
Departure from the Tourist Office, Sélestat bureau.
Join the cycling lane from the Witch Tower, Boulevard Thiers. At this intersection, turn left.
At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit, which leads you straight ahead, route d’EBERSHEIM.
Stay on the track until the traffic light. Then turn right.
At the roundabout, stay on the cycle path that takes you below the D1083, towards Ebersheim. Ride to the village and reach the center via the cycle lane.
Ebersheim:
Turn right to the Town Hall, left Rue du Buhl, then right Rue de l’Eglise (you will see the original baroque bell tower).
Turn right then left following the cycling signs and leave the village.
To arrive at Ebersmunster, in the middle of the fields, turn left while staying on the paved path. You will see in the distance on your right three onion-shaped bell towers towards which you will head.
Ebersmunster:
Visit the baroque abbey church of Ebersmunster.
Leave Ebersmunster following the D210 towards Hilsenheim. You are no longer on the cycle path.
You will cross 3 bridges successively. After the 3rd, take the 1st small path on the right side, which crosses a forest (dirt path).
On the edge of the forest, to the left of the path, you will see the dike of the ILL.
Ride on the dike (the path is covered with grass and offers a beautiful rural setting) until Muttersholtz.
Muttersholtz:
To the left, cross the village of Muttersholtz, staying on the D21. Opposite the Town Hall, turn right (Rue de Baldenheim) then continue this street to the intersection.
At the crossroads (Rue Langert on your left), go straight ahead along Rue des Tulipes. At the end of the street, turn right and cross the industrial area.
Turn left towards the fields, then join the paved cycle path towards Baldenheim.
Baldenheim:
While crossing the village, don’t miss a visit to the historic church of Baldenheim.
Turn around, return to the main street which you cross towards Mussig. At the exit of Baldenheim, you will take the cycle path.
Mussig:
In Mussig, ride straight ahead to the village center, then Rue du Moulin (you will see an impressive mansard-roofed building opposite you; it is the former presbytery). You pass near the Goetz Farm (Rue de la Forêt).
Head towards Moulin Stoll, when leaving the village, to discover the Mussig Tumuli a bit further on (information panel by the path).
Stay on the agricultural path until the intersection with the D209 and ride straight ahead on the dike of the Ill, until entering the village of Muttersholtz.
Muttersholtz:
On the D21, turn left to cross Ehnwihr. On your right, the Nature House. And why not try the barefoot trail “SensoRied”?
At the crossroads, after leaving Ehnwihr, turn right, then the 1st left to join the cycle path which you will follow to Sélestat. You will cross meadows, go through the forest and the water treatment center.
An underpass allows you to avoid crossing the D721.
Sélestat:
Once back in Sélestat, via the Tanzmatten performance hall, the path takes you back to the city center while staying on a cycle lane.

Sélestat is accessible by train thanks to a SNCF station very well served by TER200, including on Saturdays and Sundays

Sélestat is an important road junction between Strasbourg and Colmar, the Vosges and the German border and is easily accessible via RD1083, D159 and D424

Several free parking lots in Sélestat (SNCF station on the water tower side and on the Kintzheim road side, especially Schweisguth parking)
