Striking contrast between these two character villages of Saint-Montan with its warm stones and Alba-La-Romaine with its black stones. Between plots of vines and lavender, set out to discover the magnificent and bucolic valley of the Nègue.

From the character village of Saint-Montan, follow the Sainte-Beaume gorges: the hermit’s cave is nestled in the limestone cliffs on the right.
Pass through the small village of Larnas then cross the lavender, vines, and almond trees of the Laoul plateau. At the small pass, admire the Dent de Rez (meaning saw tooth in Occitan and the highest point of southern Ardèche).
Descend into the valley of the Nègue via the pretty hamlet of Haute Valgayette. Iris fields bloom in May, then continue to the village of Saint-Thomé perched on its rocky spur. Gently climb the Dardaillon valley to the village of Valvignères (from Latin Vallis vinaria: the valley of the vine). Proceed to Alba-la-Romaine, a character village to visit without forgetting the La Roche district, the ancient site, and the Muséal.
Return to Valvignères then stop at Mas d’Intras and pass the small pass of la Fare. Follow the Mure stream through its charming valley, then climb towards Gras: a beautiful stone village. Don’t miss the viewpoint at the cemetery and its chapel. From the Nègue, climb back onto the Laoul plateau via the hamlet of Fontfreyde. Visit the Romanesque church of Larnas before descending again towards Saint-Montan via the Eylieux valley.
Stroll through the medieval village enjoying the e-bike service area under the plane trees.
It is possible to start from each of the 6 villages where you will find 2 e-bike charging stations, benches, bike racks as well as an information board.
