Summer is here! Experience a full-day moderate bike route between Holzkirchen and Glonn, with numerous refreshment stops and interesting rest and viewing points along the way.
Weekend trip, training round, or staycation—starting from Holzkirchen town center, we explore the rather quiet region between the Mangfall, Glonn, and Kupferbach valleys. The route is a full-day activity for leisure cyclists but can be 'intensified' using a racing or gravel bike or 'relaxed' with an e-bike.
Author’s recommendation
With bathing options at Mangfall, Lauser Weiher, and the Wiesmühle natural swimming pool, this route is also suitable as an extended bathing excursion.

Roadbook
We start at Holzkirchen Herdergarten. Anyone who wants can pump up and wait with their bike at the bike service station in Marienstraße (library entrance) before the route.
Heading north, we follow Marienstraße, veer slightly right, and cross the railway tracks over the Kindergarten Bridge. We follow Austraße to an underpass that leads us to the bike path at Otto-Mair-Ring. Past a playground, an asphalt bike path takes us through another underpass. After the underpass, we turn sharply right onto a gravel and field path heading northeast (currently not an official bike path). We follow this along the tracks until we meet an asphalt path, where we take a left onto Eschenstraße. At the next junction, turn right to leave the town of Holzkirchen and cycle via Heidenweg into the Föching district. We cross the main road at the pond and follow the bike signs via Schulstraße, away from the main road, across the town. At the end of Schulstraße, we cross the main road again and continue on the bike path towards Fellach. In Fellach, we turn right and take the signposted bike route through the forest towards Valley. Via a forest path, we reach Unterdarching, where the first refreshment stop is offered. We continue south on the local road, pass under the A8 motorway, and keep left at the first junction—a small side street takes us to Mitterdarching station (BRB connection to Holzkirchen/Munich).
At the station, we cross state road 2073 and follow the bike path directly to the first highlight of the route: our bike path leads at dizzying height under the motorway bridge over the Mangfall valley. We continue on the path towards Weyarn, passing the climbing gym KletterZ and the local grocer (refreshment stop at the café) in the modern Klosteranger residential area, until the Weyarn roundabout. Here we turn north and follow the street-side bike path. Those wanting a short detour at Standkirchen to the "Weyarner Lindl" hill can enjoy an impressive view of the Mangfall mountains and the Miesbach Oberland. The route continues north via Fentbach and Sonderdilching to Kleinhöhenkirchen, recognizable from afar by its impressive "Maria Heimsuchung" church. Those wanting to refuel should stop at the nearby Mangfalltal Alm.
Now follows a rushing descent eastwards on the local road—caution, the route is partly poorly visible. At the bottom, we pass the former Niederaltenburg goose farm and reach the Mangfall riverbank. We cross the Mangfall and continue southeast through small residential streets past Westerham station (Meridian to Kreuzstraße/Holzkirchen) and along district road RO2 to Von Andrian Street. Here we turn left and follow the road northwest with a slight incline to the village of Oberreit. In Oberreit, turn right and follow the bike path to reach the Stollwerck Mausoleum further north. The 1927 monument is on a wooded hill and can be reached by a short walk.
We continue north on the bike path through Buchberg to Unterlaus. At Unterlaus, the Lauser Weiher pond offers refreshment, or alternatively, there is also a place to eat for strengthening.
We cycle further east, uphill to Großhöhenrain, where besides refreshment options, Höhenrain Castle offers a cultural-historical stopover.
Via Thal, we continue north to Piusheim in the Glonn valley. Here, another possible refreshment stop at the local organic manufactory is available before the bike path on a quiet local road comfortably leads us to Glonn, the main goal of our bike ride. A final refreshment stop is recommended here—an authentic highlight on weekends is the Wiesmühle, which is also a natural outdoor pool. The nearby Kupferbach feeds a swimming pool here.
From the Wiesmühle, we roll through the scenic Kupferbach valley, which we leave at Reisenthaler Hof by turning right. We master a short climb to the town of Münster and follow small local streets, over another short climb to Heimatshofen. Once at Heimatshofen, we keep right and follow an asphalt road through the forest with gentle ups and downs to the hamlet of Kaltenbrunn. In Kaltenbrunn, we turn sharply left, heading ever further south. With good visibility, the local mountains can already be seen here—the view extends from Wendelstein in the east over the Mangfall and Karwendel mountains to Zugspitze in the west. We cross Großhelfendorf and now continue west. Beyond the forest settlement, we first ride on a street-side bike path but soon leave it to cross a forest path on the left ("Peißer Straßl"). This takes us shortly before Kreuzstraße, which we reach after a brief stretch on the district road. The last ten kilometers of our route begin. Over the junction, we go downhill, past Kreuzstraße railway stop (S-Bahn S5 to Munich/Meridian to Holzkirchen) and onwards to Sollach. In Sollach, we turn right onto an asphalt local road, which leads us back to Fellach. From Fellach, we follow the familiar route via Föching back to Holzkirchen town center, which we reach soon.
