Roadbook
In the center of Berlin, directly at the Brandenburg Gate, we start our route. Soon, we leave the hustle and bustle of the big city behind and head towards our first stage destination, Hennigsdorf. Here, we can visit the Martin Luther Church as well as the neo-Gothic town hall, which houses the city museum. Then we continue to the district of Nieder Neuendorf, where one of the three remaining border observation towers of the Berlin Wall stands. This houses a small museum that can be visited during the summer months. Our next major destination is Oranienburg. Here we should take time to visit the Oranienburg Palace. Afterwards, we cycle through the towns of Liebenwalde and Bischofswerder to Zehdenick. The small town lies directly on the Havel and offers some sights. Mentioned here is the ruin of the former Cistercian nunnery.
North of Zehdenick, we pass through a magnificent pond landscape and then follow the shore of the Große Wentowsee. At Dannenwalde, we cycle between the large and small parts of the lake and continue our route through wooded areas. In the village of Bredereiche, we meet the Havel again and follow it to the Stolpsee. On its shore is the former Cistercian monastery Himmelpfort, whose ruins we can visit. From Stolpsee, it is not far to Fürstenberg/Havel, where we can end our route. To reach the Brandenburg border from here, one cycles through the Stabschläger Heide to Neuglobsow. This village lies near the Große Stechlinsee. Heading north, you then pass Peetschsee as well as the Große and Kleine Glietzensee on the way to Großmenow and from there further towards Strasen, which is already on the Mecklenburg side.
The route runs on newly built, asphalted and well-signed cycle and service roads with little local traffic. The cycle path is not signposted in the city of Berlin.
