The Bellheimer Forest is a forest area between Landau and Germersheim. The eponymous town of Bellheim borders directly to the south of the forest, which is crossed by the Queich River. The Bellheimer Forest is popular with cyclists and walkers because of its magical forest paths and the idyllic Queich meadows. The Queich meadows have been irrigated for over 500 years in spring and summer, on a total of 6 days per year. At these times, the Queich is dammed at several points and water is channeled via irrigation ditches into the meadows. The irrigation ensures good hay harvests for the farmers and allows rare plants and animals dependent on moisture to live here. Since 2001, the white stork has been breeding successfully again. During the summer months, you can observe well over 100 storks in the meadows along the Queich. A popular excursion destination is the "Knittelsheimer Mühle". The rustic inn invites hungry visitors to try regional delicacies in the cozy beer garden.

Roadbook
Route description:
The start point of the circular route is the car park at the La Ola leisure pool in Landau. First, you follow the Queichtal cycle path in the direction of Germersheim. Initially, you ride along unpaved farm roads following the Queich River to Offenbach. You pass through Offenbach along the sports facilities and the swimming pool and reach Hochstädter Straße at the eastern end of the town. After the tennis courts in Offenbach, the route enters the Bellheimer Forest. Passing the Ottersheimer Bärensee, you reach the Ottersheimer division weir, which serves to irrigate the Queichtal meadows. At the Ottersheimer division weir, the Queich is split in a ratio of 3:2. At the weir, turn right and follow the forest path. After 400 m, at the next fork, turn left onto the forest nature trail. Along the forest nature trail, ride along the Spiegelbach stream to the "Knittelsheimer Mühle". From here, continue towards Bellheim, cross the main road, and cycle along the northern edge of Bellheim to the playground at the shooting range. There, turn left and follow the path about 800 m north to the forest boundary. After another 500 m, turn right and follow the path to the main road. Here, you leave the Queichtal cycle path and cycle along the cycle path beside the main road past the Holzmühle to Westheim. At the entrance to Westheim, following the cycle signage, turn in the direction of Lustadt. After 500 m, at the forest edge, turn right to the tracks of the former Landau – Lingenfeld railway line. You now follow the cycle path along the former railway line, which is currently used as a draisine track, over Lustadt to Zeiskam. In Zeiskam, from the town center, follow the cycle route signs towards Landau. Two kilometers after Zeiskam, you reach the railway line again and follow it until shortly before Landau. At the junction to Dammheim, turn left onto the Winzer circular cycle path, which leads you back to the starting point, the La Ola leisure pool.
