Around the Rottachberg

We start at the St. Stephan church in Rettenberg and leave the town via the slightly downhill Fritz-Bilek-Weg. A scenic field path leads us past the Jesus-Marterl down to Weiher. We pass through the village, head towards Untermaiselstein, and soon reach a country road that takes us right through a rock passage. After a short steep descent, we turn left and pass through a densely wooded hollow to Untermaiselstein. Behind the local dairy, we turn left at the curve, leaving the main road straight ahead. Our path leads onto a gravel road that takes us over the Iller near Flecken.
We stay for a while on the left bank and then branch off towards Thanners. There, we glance back to the Immenstadt mountains before overcoming a small rise, going under the B19, and turning towards Häusern.
At the bridge monument, we change the Iller bank again and immediately turn left towards Widdum. We leave the beautiful Widdumer pond on the right and, at the next right turn, ride steadily uphill to the tranquil Ottacker. From here, we trade the wide meadows for a wooded section, which we leave at Albis and continue towards Raichen. Our route describes a wide right curve, soon leading over the dam wall of the Rottachsee.
Then we follow the country road to the right and continue along the southeastern flank of the Rottachberg. Further on, we pass a rolling terrain. From the heights, we enjoy a wide view into the Osterrieder valley. We pass through Vorderburg and ride along the ridge to Engelpolz. From there, we continue to Sterklis, where a wonderful view of the Grünten opens up on the left.
Finally, the path descends almost continuously along the southeastern mountain foothills back to Rettenberg. There, we reach our starting point at the St. Stephan church.
