From the parking lot, we arrive at the Dobbertin monastery church after just a few pedal strokes. The red brick building is crowned by two towers – absolutely unique in Mecklenburg. The monastery church was completed and consecrated in its current form in 1875. The Dobbertin Monastery as a whole looks back on an almost 800-year history. It was founded in 1220 by Benedictine monks and soon after converted into a nunnery. Through extensive donations, Dobbertin became one of the wealthiest monasteries in the country. Today, Dobbertin Monastery is home to people with intellectual disabilities. After visiting the monastery church, we cycle to the boat landing stage. From here, a small path begins that leads us directly along Dobbertiner Lake. The views are fantastic. We then continue through a small park to the campsite and the outdoor swimming pool of Dobbertin. A somewhat bumpy path leads us further directly along the shore. Soon we turn right and enter Dobbin via a road on the left. We continue on sandy paths to the Old Mill. Here also begins the wild romantic path through the Mildenitz breakthrough valley. Even if this path is sometimes only passable on foot – it's worth pushing the bike! We continue to Neuhof with its old manor house. Nienhagen and Ausbau Oldenstorf are the next stops. Shortly before Kleesten, we come onto an asphalt road and follow it back to Dobbertin. One last stop at the ice cream café in Dobbertin – then back to the monastery.
