The Amper-Altmühl Cycle Path skirts the largest contiguous hop-growing region in the world, the Hallertau. It runs along low-traffic roads and field paths as well as roadside cycle paths through the Schrobenhausen asparagus region and the former Palatinate Neuburg into the Altmühltal Nature Park. Along the way, it passes charming river landscapes: from the Amper valley near Allershausen, through the Ilm valley in the district of Pfaffenhofen and the Paar valley near Schrobenhausen, the path leads directly into the Danube floodplain landscape near Neuburg before the route reaches the Altmühltal near Dollnstein via the Danube cycle path and the Wellheim dry valley near Rennertshofen. Alongside the changing river landscapes, different landscape types are experienced: the tertiary hill chains of the Alpine foothills in the area of Freising, Pfaffenhofen and Schrobenhausen are replaced further north by the largest fen area in southern Germany, the Donaumoos. Over the ecologically significant floodplain forest complex near Neuburg, the Danube cycle path and the Urdonau valley cycle path, we reach the first foothills of the karstified heights of the Swabian-Franconian Jura in the Altmühltal Nature Park.

The cycle path is mostly asphalted
