At the station in Dießen, we start our bike ride around the Ammersee. Exactly opposite the station, we find an information board that describes our tour in detail. We cycle off towards Utting, pass over the parking lot, and cross the railway tracks at its end. On a straight, shaded, and easy-to-ride path, we reach St. Alban. Dominating is the small monastery, which we see immediately as we enter the town. Opposite, we see the boat dock. At the lake restaurant by the campsite, we can refresh ourselves for the first time. We continue cycling along the railway line. Behind the campsite, we ride on Seeweg, a lightly trafficked residential street, past houses. In Riederau, we again have the option to take a break at the beach with a restaurant. Afterwards, we cycle for a while through the forest, cross a small pedestrian bridge over the Kreutbach, and then see the ferry dock in Holzhausen. We continue following the bike path and reach the Künstlerhaus Gasteiger, which we can visit. In this Art Nouveau house lived the sculptor Mathias Gasteiger (1871-1934) with his wife Anna Sophie Gasteiger (1877-1954), who became particularly known as a flower painter. The artist residence was built from 1902 to 1913 on the Ammersee shore. The house with its farm garden, the landscape park, and the farm buildings form a unique ensemble of Munich Art Nouveau. The museum in the residential building includes the Art Nouveau furnishings of the rooms, historical photographs, a selection of Mathias Gasteiger's sculptures, and a collection of paintings by Anna Sophie Gasteiger. A few more meters through the forest, then we turn right at the railway barrier. The bike path now runs parallel to the road to Utting and then merges into it. Behind the high school, we turn right and return to the lakeshore. The park in Utting attracts its visitors with playgrounds, sailing schools, boat rentals, and beer gardens. We continue cycling along the lake shore, past the "Alte Villa," a garden restaurant with a playground, and can see the Ammersee again behind the campsites. The bike path runs through reeds until Schondorf. In Schondorf, the leisure options are diverse again. In addition to numerous places to eat, we can rent pedal boats or play mini-golf. From Schondorf to just before Stegen, we again ride through the forest with a lake view and then past houses. Before arriving in Stegen, we cross the Amper parallel to the road. Behind Stegen, we reach the Ammersee high-altitude bike path, as there is no longer any possibility to cycle right on the shore. Passing by the Waldeck guesthouse, we reach Buch and ride via Breitbrunn to Gut Ellwang. In Rausch, we enter the village, turn left, and ride downhill on Hechendorfer Straße. We pass the university of applied sciences and end up directly on the Ammersee at the end of the street, where we keep left and thus reach Herrsching. In Herrsching, we can decide whether to take the ferry to cross to Dießen. If not, we continue along the road via Fischen to Pähl and from there via Raisting back to Dießen, our starting point. Around the Ammersee, we not only find numerous leisure attractions during our round trip but also at the end of the route, about which the tourist information near the starting point will be glad to inform us.
