Start/finish: Train station in Lauterecken
"Alte Welt" refers to the area between the Alzenz, Lauter and Glan valleys. Presumably,
the name derives from the fact that in the "New World" i.e. in the Alzenz, Lauter and Glan valleys railway lines were built in the 19th century, while the land in between remained without rail connection. In this "Old World", time stood still. It is considered remote and original. In a half-timbered house built in 1721 in the center of Nußbach, the attic houses the Alte-Welt Museum. The focus of the exhibition is cloth making from flax, women's clothing around 1900, and the history of the Alte Welt.
The bike route "Alte Welt" leads from the train station in Lauterecken along the Glan-Blies cycle path to Odenbach and from there on the Odenbach valley cycle path to Ginsweiler. Via low-traffic country roads and paved field paths, it then goes through Becherbach, Nußbach, Rathskirchen, Seelen, Hefersweiler, Reipoltskirchen and Hohenöllen through the "Old World." The starting point in Lauterecken is reached from Hohenöllen on a paved field path that gently rolls along the ridge between the Alsenz and Odenbach valleys.

Route description
The circular route starts at the train station in Lauterecken. From the station, you first follow the Glan-Blies cycle path via Medard to Odenbach and from Odenbach on the Odenbach valley cycle path via Adenbach to Ginsweiler. In Ginsweiler, turn left towards Becherbach. On the low-traffic road, it goes gently uphill through the forest to Becherbach.
At the end of Becherbach, turn right onto "Ritschlei" street (airfield). Now it goes steeply uphill on a paved field path up to the Erlenberg with a fantastic view over the "Old World." The path then leads you to Nußbach, where you turn left onto the L385 towards Rathskirchen in the town center.
In Rathskirchen, follow the cycle path signs into the town. Here, turn right onto "In der Frühwiese" street on the main street. The path initially follows the Nußbach and after 500 m steeply uphill towards Seelen. At the top, you reach a T-junction. Turn left here. In Seelen, turn right onto the main street towards Hefersweiler. On the low-traffic country road, you descend into the Odenbach valley near Hefersweiler, where you meet the Odenbach cycle path again. On it, you travel away from the road to Reipoltskirchen.
At the water castle of Reipoltskirchen, leave the Odenbach valley cycle path and travel via Kegelbahnstraße, turning right onto the main street until the turn-off to Hohenöllen. On this narrow district road, it goes uphill one last time to Hohenöllen.
In Hohenöllen, turn right onto Sulzhofer street and about 200 m after leaving Hohenöllen, turn left onto the paved field path. On this path, which runs on the ridge between the Odenbach and Lauter valleys, it goes to the country road between Lauterecken and Cronenberg. Turn left here and after 200 m turn right towards Pfalzhütte. At Pfalzhütte, turn left towards Krämelhof and shortly before Krämelhof, turn right and go continuously downhill to Lauterecken. In Lauterecken, you reach the starting point of the route via the streets "Ringmauer", main street and Bahnhofstraße.
