Die Radtour verbindet die beiden Orte Plön und Malente auf einer Strecke, die immer wieder schöne Ausblicke auf die Seenlandschaft des Naturparks eröffnet. Unterwegs führt der Weg vorbei am Plöner Schloss sowie an den historischen Räucherkaten in Timmdorf und Malente. Obwohl die bekannte „5-Seen-Fahrt“ Namensgeber der Verbindung ist, berührt die Route insgesamt sogar neun verschiedene Seen und bietet damit zahlreiche Eindrücke der wasserreichen Landschaft der Holsteinischen Schweiz.
