Cultural enjoyment and leisure fun, experiencing nature and motorsport – this route through the German-Dutch border area offers a lot of variety.

Right after the start, you first pass the Gut Düneburg Golf Park, then the Schloss Dankern holiday center. In one of the largest holiday parks in Europe, you will find the Dankernsee with numerous water sports opportunities, the Topas fun pool and numerous playgrounds both outdoors and indoors. The bike route leads between the lake and the holiday home settlement directly to the airfield of the Haren / Dankern Flying Club. Want to change the means of transport and perspective? Here you can take sightseeing flights over the Emsland. However, then you miss the particularly charming section along the Haren-Rütenbrock Canal. The historic waterway, with its lively sports boat traffic, is lined by an old oak avenue and leads you further into the International Nature Park Bourtanger Moor-Bargerveen.

Shortly before the former Ter Apel monastery, you first leave the vast moorland behind and cycle through a small forest towards the historic walls that house a collection on church history and religious art. In addition, the old abbey is the venue for various events and changing exhibitions of contemporary art.

Back towards Haren, you pass through Dutch and German moor settlements, past the Emslandring karting track and again towards Schloss Dankern. Want a refreshment after the tour or a jump into the cool waters? Here you have the possibility for both.

    Author’s recommendation

For a little extra adventure, you can try your luck in the Meutstege corn maze in late summer!

In the other seasons, you can explore either the Mill Museum or the Shipping Museum in Haren.
