We start at Cafe West, cross the street and go down to the Sonnenhausen estate. The conference hotel is popular for weddings and provides a fitting setting for the celebrations. After the visit, go right in front of the estate down a gravel forest path. This path is extremely difficult to ride on short stretches. Therefore, it is advisable to take sections where you walk the bike or go via Glonn. Down below, we reach the Moosacher Brook and follow the signs to Steinsee. Steinsee is said to be the warmest bathing lake in Germany and is correspondingly popular. Continue over lightly trafficked roads to Schlacht and further on natural paths to Oberpframmern. We continue to follow the signs to Buch or Kirchseeon. Please be careful in Buch. Although it is a built-up area, cars and trucks travel very fast. We cycle briefly left on the main road and after 200m turn right onto a quiet side path. Via Ilching, we reach Kirchseeon. We pass through the town and follow the signs to Moosach or Bruck. In Bruck, we cross the main road and after the Brucker Moor, a demanding climb awaits us. Past Cafe Bauer, known for its extremely large cake slices, we reach the Herrmannsdorfer workshops. Ecological farming and art can be seen. After the parking lot, we keep right and pass the Schießstand inn to reach Zinneberg Monastery. The former castle is now run as a monastery with a small but excellent shop and a monastery cafe. Unfortunately, the bikes must remain outside the gate, but the visit is definitely worth it. Past the monastery lake, we return to our starting point.
Author’s recommendation
Visit Sonnenhausen estate.
Swimming lake Steinsee.
Cafe Bauer, also Herrmannsdorfer beer garden and farm shop. Schießstätte inn.
Zinneberg monastery shop with excellent bread products, delicious cake, and fruit and vegetables as they should taste. Also the monastery cafe with good breakfast and small lunch dishes.
Attention: A large part of the route leads over gravel forest and field paths. More suitable for a mountain bike but certainly also rideable with a touring bike, however, it requires corresponding confidence on the bike.
A bicycle helmet may ruin your hairstyle but protects against skull fractures.
In Buch please be careful. Although a built-up area, cars and trucks travel fast and our cycling route meets the town road at an unclear junction.
