Ramsau Dachstein crossing
Author’s recommendation
From the car park at the Planai valley station with Ramsauer Transport Company (RVB) to the valley station of the Dachstein South Wall Cable Car.
Important: telephone inquiry and registration of the return transport with RVB (recommended 1st bus around 7:20 am from Rathausplatz about 5 minutes' walk away) or with the bus driver
The return trip around 3:30 pm from Hallstatt leads the ski tourer back to the Planai valley station.
The Dachstein South Wall Cable Car also organizes the return transport.

Simony HutSafety information
Fog is the enemy of the ski tourer on the Dachstein!! Up to the Wiesberghaus there is only limited orientation possibility in fog! (possibly use GPS navigation and follow a track)
Avalanche danger must be particularly observed on the descent from the Wiesberghaus to the valley.
The hut warden of the Simony Hut gave us the tip not to leave the route on the descent from the Wiesberghaus to the valley. Rock holes and crevices or drops invite one to disappear here.

Roadbook
Start at the mountain station of the Dachstein South Wall Cable Car towards the national ski route or Dachstein crossing. After crossing a drag lift track, leave the groomed track to the right and initially over gentle glacier slopes, later between the foot of the rock face to Gjaidstein and down to the glacier edge, and through rock islands still over gentle slopes to the upper ice lakes at the foot of the Simony Hut. (approx. 130 m ascent)
Continue ascending on the groomed track until you meet the actual continuation of the route. OR cross a very steep slope without ascent (avalanche danger).
Descent with short uphill sections until the signpost to the "Wiesberghaus" points to the left. After a much too short descent, this beautiful house is reached.
Now along ski descent signs and red arrows on trees (sometimes you have to look for them) and the yellow information signs towards Hallstatt. The hut warden of the Simony Hut gave us the tip not to leave the route. Rock holes and crevices or drops invite one to disappear here. Safety signs have been set up regarding avalanche-prone sections.
The descent is varied and requires quite confident skiers.
After 2 conspicuous hairpin turns (1 to the right and 1 to the left at an altitude of 980 m) you could, as we did, leave the forest road and through quite wild but good rideable forest via the "Niederdürren" come to the valley station of the material cableway. Then again on the now cleared forest road you reach the first houses of Hallstatt in the valley floor - Lahn.
Now you first look for the boat landing stage, which is located on the orographic left slope behind the cog railway of the salt mine, directly at the tunnel of the federal road and before the entrance to the old town, and then a coffee house where, as you are sure like us, you arrived too early.
