Kitzsteinhorn - X2 Westside Story (Extended Version)

The Westside Story starting at the Kristallbahn top station is certainly one of the most beautiful and longest freeride routes on the Kitzsteinhorn. But as is fitting for powder addicts like us, we found an 'Extended Version' that brings the necessary thrill and an additional powder slope. Instead of entering the route already at the Kristallbahn top station, we take the Maurerlift up to 2870m altitude. Now you first traverse northwest towards avalanche barriers until you reach a somewhat exposed ridge. Caution is advised here! The mountain slopes drop steeply on both the left and right sides. The traverse is therefore an absolute no-fall zone! After about 250 meters along the ridge, you reach a wide field that becomes increasingly steep just above the Kristallbahn top station. Due to the somewhat more difficult traverse directly on the ridge, the probability of finding powder remains high even after longer dry periods.

You are now standing right at the 'normal' entry to the Westside Story. After a short traverse in a northwesterly direction, several gullies and snowfields stretch out before you, leading down to the Kristallbahn valley station. Only in the lower quarter must you be careful not to stand at a rock drop. These can be well seen from the Langwiedbahn valley station.
