Half Dome Run - Whitewater, Nelson BC
The Whitewater Ski Resort is a small but fine ski area near Nelson, British Columbia. There are several other freeride runs around the ski area. It is best to ask the locals on site. If it snowed overnight, the whole town is on the mountain. That means being early to leave the best tracks.
The ascent is easy and with 420m of elevation gain not really long. There is almost always already a track and many other variants that branch off left and right repeatedly.
Even if you are right next to a ski area, the avalanche danger should not be underestimated, especially after a large amount of new snow. You can either take the Silver King chair lift or ascend with tour skis. Right at the junction, there is a sign indicating the current avalanche situation. This should be taken seriously.
With good weather, you will be rewarded with a super cool view and with good snow conditions with an unforgettable freeride run.

Roadbook
You take the Silver King Chair to the start of the route. You can also ascend with tour skis, but you should avoid the slopes. Sometimes there is an ascent track on the right of the Sluice Box descent.
Once at the top, keep left and ski down the Silver King Ski Way descent for a few meters. You then reach the junction to the left quite quickly. There is almost always a track present. Here is also the sign for the avalanche situation. After putting on skins, ascend on a gentle track to a saddle. You change sides and cross a northwest slope, then ascend to another saddle. Here you turn south and walk up a relatively broad ridge to the Half Dome summit (2328m).
From here there are several descents.
First, ski south into a notch. Then turn right and you have the whole basin in front of you. Further down you can see the slopes and the valley station, the goal of the descent. Beware of steep steps and rocks on the slope.
Further down, just head towards the slope and you automatically reach the valley station.
