The Dachstein crossing on skis is a spectacular scenic experience and therefore only recommended in appropriate weather conditions. The piste track is usually set from February from the mountain station of the Dachstein cable car to the Krippenstein.

Take the Hunerkogel cable car up and start the route. Turn on and check your avalanche transceiver, then you can begin the ride. First, leave the lifts behind downhill and ski past the Dachstein dirndls. Then carry or push your skis a bit uphill to below the Dachstein. Those who carry suitable ice equipment can also take on this part. A detour to the Seethaler Hut (opening hours here) is worthwhile for the good view alone. From there, descend under the Lower Dachstein and High Cross to the Simony Hut. If you are cold or want to enjoy the south terrace, a stay there is recommended (Simony Hut opening hours here). The further descent on the piste track goes up and down a bit, depending on snow conditions, to the Gjaidalm. There, take the lift or walk slightly uphill, then continue over the slope to the valley station of the cable car in Obertraun. From there, a bus line returns to the valley station of the Dachstein cable car.
