Magerstein

From the Reintalstraße shortly before the valley floor of Rein (1525 m; parking lot, signpost «Rieserferner hut») on the Erlanger path always following marker 3 through the forest up to the Geltal alms and then partly easy, partly steeper ascending over block terrain up to the Rieserferner hut (2800 m; summer operation; from Reintalstraße 3:30 hrs); possible overnight stay here. – From the refuge then following the marker northwards mostly on trail traces over block terrain up, under the Geltalspitze and further on the marked route over block terrain up to signposts at the east ridge of the Fernerköpfl (approx. 3230 m); now crossing right onto the glacier and over it (mostly pre-tracked snow path, watch out for crevasses!) descending slightly, bypassing the northern foot of the Frauenköpfl eastwards to a firn saddle, over the glacier eastwards uphill and finally over block terrain up to the summit of the Magerstein (3273 m; from hut 2 hrs). – Descent: safest again over the ascent route.
