From the end of the Suldner Valley (1,900 m), first take the two-section cable car up to the mountain station (2,600 m; restaurant; a little further down is the Schaubachhütte), then hike on foot along the green-marked “Stecknersteig” for just under 2 hours up to the Eisseespitze (3,230 m). Now follow the marked mountain trail briefly down the west side to the Eisseepass (3,139 m; it’s also possible to ascend directly from here via the crevasse-ridden and rockfall-prone edge of the Suldenferner), then follow faint trail marks westward down briefly to the Langenferner and across it on the glacier trail, which soon begins a moderate ascent to the Große Casatihütte (3,254 m; 3:30 hours from the cable car; overnight stay here).
