Inner Sommerwand (3122m) from the Franz Senn Hut

At the glacier edge, crampons are put on. An ice axe is also required. It will become quite steep in places.

Due to the strong glacier retreat at the Sommerwandferner, it can currently be crossed without rope team security, as no crevasses are expected. As always, make your own assessment of the situation on site!

Now the ascent to the Kräulscharte passes over the glacier. Here the terrain changes to rocky ground. Due to glacier retreat, the entry point is about 10 meters below the fixed cable protections. A fixed rope hangs at the entry to bridge this section.

This section must be climbed upwards. Crampons can be taken off once above the entry. You will then be on the backside.

From there, continue with easy climbing (I-II) and partly exposed sections to the summit of the Inner Sommerwand. Fixed cables are also available, but not continuously.

At the summit, you have a good view. For example, you can see into the Karwendel range.
