Roadbook
From the Simony Hut we follow trail 601 to the Hallstatt Glacier and the belay point at currently (10.08.2024) 2380 m elevation. On the orographically left edge of the glacier, we ascend gently to the entry of the shoulder via ferrata at 2750 m. The crevasse at the edge varies in size depending on the season and conditions. The shoulder via ferrata has difficulty B/C and a via ferrata set is required from here. The shoulder via ferrata merges in the second third after the Mecklenburger Band with the crevasse edge via ferrata and leads to the summit of the Hoher Dachstein at 2995 m.
We descend to the Große Gosau Glacier via the secured West Ridge via ferrata A/B. Depending on the current conditions, we can cross the glacier directly to the entry of the Steiner notch at 2570 m. The B/C via ferrata is currently accessed by a fixed rope, as the glacier has melted back considerably. Over the notch, we return to the Hallstatt Glacier. Here too, a fixed rope helps us reach the glacier in the last few meters. After a short descent, we reach our ascent track from the morning and follow it back to the Simony Hut.
