Safety information
The Vernagt and Gepatsch glaciers present no technical difficulties, but the danger of crevasses is omnipresent there as well. To avoid losing orientation in fog, you should definitely download a GPS track along with a map on your phone, which is very easy with the alpenvereinaktiv.com app. This track serves as a navigation aid; however, the route on a glacier (e.g., due to changes in crevasse patterns) can change at any time.Tips and suggestions

Roadbook
From the Rauhekopfhütte, follow the path gently ascending to the southeast through slightly rocky terrain, first heading towards the Brandenburger Haus. Once you reach the Gepatschferner, keep left and cross the main glacier tongue at about 2900 m to the east. On the other side, follow a slightly ascending eastern branch of the Gepatschferner to the northeast and then turn east to finally reach the Gepatschjoch, which is briefly steeper and rockier.
On the other side, descend steeply east for a short distance and then continue gently descending eastward around the northern foothills of the Hintergrasl peaks. Here you reach the Große Vernagt Glacier and then continue hiking southeast. Soon, tracks from the Wildspitze join from the left, and finally, you reach the Vernagthütte via a prominent lateral moraine.
