The Vernagt and Gepatschferner glaciers have no technical difficulties, but the danger of crevasses is always present.
To avoid losing orientation in fog, you should download a GPS track along with a map to your mobile phone, which is very easy with the alpenvereinaktiv.com app. This track then serves as orientation aid, but the route on a glacier (e.g. due to changes in crevasse patterns) can change at any time.

Roadbook
From Vernagthütte, first follow the distinctive lateral moraine of the (formerly Vernagtferner) glacier to the northwest. After passing the left rising flanks of the Hintergrasl peaks, do not follow the tracks to the right towards Wildspitze, but stay left to soon reach the western part of the Große Vernagtferner. Here you rope up. Then always head west, initially quite flat and only steepening towards the end to reach the 3241 m high Gepantschjoch.
From there, first go west, then southwest over a side arm down to the main tongue of the Gepatschferner. This is crossed at about 2900 m height heading west. On the other side, you reach the "rock island" of the Große and Kleine Rauhekopf, where you finally turn right to descend slightly northwards over the Kleine Rauhekopf to the Rauhekopfhütte.
