The name Clariden probably derives from the Latin word "clarus" meaning bright or shiny, which fits well considering the impressive glaciation. For the ascents over the large glaciers on the south side, an overnight stay in the Clariden or Planura hut is necessary. From the north side, Clariden can be conquered in one day. Here too, a small glacier, the Iswändli, must be crossed, which has lost much of its former danger due to glacier retreat. The ridge from the subpeak to the main summit is almost continuously equipped with stable chains. Experienced alpinists can also do this route without a rope when the glacier is free of snow.
