The tour begins at the Pozzi Alti parking lot (1,884 m), near the former Forte Pozzi Alti fortress, an Austro-Hungarian military installation built to defend the Tonale Pass. Alternatively, you can start in Stavel and walk the section to the fortress along SAT No. 233. Follow SAT No. 233 slightly uphill through a tunnel in the rock and several gullies to SAT No. 206, which leads directly from Stavel. Continue toward Rifugio Stavel “F. Denza” (2,298 m). After the hut, follow the same trail—steep at first and then along a moraine—until you reach the vicinity of Passo Cercen (3,022 m), accessible via several rock slabs. Crossing the glacier, you reach the Freshfield Saddle; from there, descend on the other side to the Nardis Glacier and around Cima Vermiglio. The final section of the ridge finally leads to the summit cross of Presanella (3,558 m).
