Easy but physically demanding 4000-meter peak in the Valais Alps. Classic round from the Täsch hut with ascent via ice nose and descent via the east flank.
The name already says it all about the shape of the mountain. Between the impressive peaks of Täschhorn and Allalinhorn, this round glacier summit seems rather unspectacular. Nevertheless, Alphubel is one of the most popular 4000-meter peaks in Valais, as it is doable for persistent beginners. No climbing skills are needed for this ice tour. Due to glacier retreat, the key section, the 45° steep ice nose, has become much less intimidating: nowadays it can be bypassed at the exposed rock edge below. However, the normal route over the moderately steep east flank (40°) has become more demanding due to the increase of crevasses. In stable weather conditions, the tour can also start from Mittelallalin via Feechopf, shortening the tour by 700 meters of elevation gain.
