The crossing of the Sonnenspitze is a rewarding undertaking in the Mieminger Chain. The approach starts from the Ehrwalder Almbahn. Via the south ridge, the route goes through varied climbing of up to grade V (UIAA) to the shapely summit of Sonnenspitze. After the scenic summit break, the descent leads over the north flank back towards the valley.
The route requires alpine experience, secure climbing skills, and good rope handling. You will be rewarded with varied ridge climbing, a fascinating view of Zugspitze and Wetterstein, and an unforgettable adventure day high above Ehrwald.
Author’s recommendation
The ascent and descent can be shortened by mountain bike up to the Seebensee.
