Rarely frequented climbing in the 2nd difficulty grade with surprisingly solid rock in the climbing sections. The nice climbing compensates for the somewhat strenuous approach. Although the route is mostly climbed by experienced alpine climbers without rope protection, carrying appropriate climbing gear should not be underestimated.

    Author’s recommendation

The food at the Habsburghaus and the view nicely round off the day.

    Safety information

Occasional glue-in bolts, which are very helpful for securing weaker followers. Few opportunities to place additional mobile protection.

The approach starts from Hinternaßwald via Rehboden to the point where Bärenloch and Wildfährte branch off to the right and the Kaisersteig still follows a short stretch of the forest road. Initially, follow the trail signs of Bärenloch/Wildfährte, then continue to climb the wide scree slope of the Große Gries with some effort until a partially buried rock ridge is reached on the right side (~1400m elevation). (approx. 2 hours) The approach can also be taken from above, where a short difficult section (possibly with rope protection) must be overcome.

From here, the ramp that facilitates the ascent is already clearly visible. At first, you stay more along the rock wall, in the middle part on the right edge of the ramp to a spot in the upper third that leads back left to the wall. A beautiful water groove is followed for a few meters and then a slab is traversed to the right. A few meters later, the prominent notch in the ridge is climbed. (approx. 1-2 hours)

Now you can continue climbing along the ridge or bypass the somewhat exposed sections to the right until the plateau and the yellow marked path are reached. This path is followed to the right (north) and leads into the "Pehoferweg," over which the Habsburghaus is reached shortly. (approx. 40 minutes)
