Monte Castello di Gaino - South Ridge
Scenically breathtaking ridge route high above Lake Garda with a very short approach in wonderful rock.
This rewarding route leads us to the popular viewpoint Monte Castello di Gaino over Toscolano-Maderno and Lake Garda. Instead of the normal path, however, we use the very popular south ridge among climbers as the ascent. Over 650m, the ridge extends more or less pronounced in wonderfully solid and water-eroded limestone up to the summit. Those who find the easiest line (thus bypassing some of the cheeky ridge towers) can manage with the III difficulty grade (UIAA). With the towers, the difficulties increase up to grade IV, at two particularly steep examples even beyond grade V. Very exposed ascents on edges and corners alternate with some botanical walking passages, which takes some seriousness out of the entire undertaking. The flat ridge between the sub-summit and the main summit is technically easy (I - II), but wonderfully airy. Absolute recommendation for climbing mountaineers (or mountaineering climbers).
