Lastoni di Dro, Via La prima lezione per i piedi (III+)
The Lastoni di Dro lie amidst steep bush forests at the foot of Dosso Grande (584 m) and are visible from afar.
The various routes on the Lastoni di Dro offer top-quality slab climbing. The easiest route is Via La prima lezione per i piedi in the right sector of the slab wall – ideal for first experiences in friction climbing. Regardless of the low difficulty level, a confident lead climber is necessary as the spacing between protection points is large.
Author’s recommendation
Due to the northwest-facing location, the slabs are in the shade all day from about November!

Safety information
The route is not recommended when wet because the otherwise rough rock becomes unpleasantly slippery due to patchy lichen growth.

APPROACH:
From the parking lot, follow the dirt road towards the slabs. Before the edge of the forest at an overgrown rubble mound, turn left onto a narrow path into the woods. Pass a large boulder on the left, then follow the path to the right. Cross a rocky chute to a flat section of the path. Names written on stones facilitate access to the correct route. Pass the routes Sole e pioggia and Dimensione terza until you reach a small stone inscribed: La prima lezione per i piedi. From here, take an earthy path edged with small stones, turn left uphill to the start.
ROUTE DESCRIPTION Via La prima lezione per i piedi:
1st pitch: From the start, go straight over the slab for 50 m to the first belay, grade 2, sandglass, bolt.
2nd pitch: Continue straight upwards and through the bushes to the belay, 52 m, grade 2; last part a smooth slab 3, 2 sandglasses, 1 bolt.
3rd pitch: Slightly left to the large slab. 45 m straight upwards to the next belay, grades 3- and 2+, 2 sandglasses, 1 bolt.
4th pitch: Straight up to the bushes, below them turn left and go straight up again to the belay, 50 m, grades 3- and 2, 1 sandglass, 5 intermediate bolts.
5th to 7th pitches: The next three pitches offer fantastic slab climbing on rough, very solid rock. Always straight upwards, on the 7th pitch slightly right at the end into a narrow slab strip between bushes. About 50 m each, two pitches graded 2+ and 2, the 7th pitch grade 3 and a short section 3+, very unpleasant when wet! In total 3 sandglasses and 6 intermediate bolts.
8th pitch: From the belay, slightly left upwards, over a steeper step and straight up to the exit including the wall book, 35 m, section 3+, otherwise 2, 3 sandglasses, 1 intermediate bolt.
DESCENT:
From the exit, take the sometimes very steep path through dense forest down to the path. "Slalom trees" make the descent somewhat knee-friendly; you can hold on well to the "gate poles." Follow the dirt road to the right back to the starting point, bypassing a quarry on the left.

Directions
From the Bolzano – Verona motorway (A 22), take the Trento Centro exit towards Riva del Garda through the Sarca Valley or from the Rovereto Sud exit via Mori – Nago to Arco and further north into the Sarca Valley to Dro. Leave the bypass and turn right towards Lago Cavedine or Drena. At the following junction – left leads to Dro, straight ahead to Cavedine – turn right onto a dirt road into the vineyards and orchards. Pass a house. Shortly after, parking is possible at a lay-by next to a stone wall. Further ahead towards the slabs, there is another parking option. Reference points are two relatively close standing power poles.
Coming from the north, you must go into Dro and drive to the roundabout, then continue towards Cavedine to the described junction above.
The car should be parked so as not to obstruct farmers at work. If you meet someone, it doesn’t hurt to ask for parking permission. After all, you are on private property, which also means behaving accordingly (no littering etc.).
