Selected alternatives for you
Alpine climbing very close to the city. A great undertaking for those who do not mind a long approach and partially loose rock. Rewarded with great views, beautiful climbing, and mountain solitude despite the proximity to the city.

The south ridge to Hohe Warte should only be attempted by alpine-experienced climbers. Experience with loose rock and free exposed climbing grade 2 is required. Due to the rock conditions, only a few intermediate protections with nuts can be placed. Head loop placements are possible repeatedly.

    Safety information

Loose, steep, exposed terrain. Besides endurance for 2000 meters of elevation gain, surefootedness and helmet (!) are absolutely necessary.

    Roadbook

Approach: From Kranebitten via Kerschbuchhof to Rauschbrunnen. Then climb many switchbacks up to the Aspach Hut and further past a hunting hut until the normal route to Hohe Warte turns west. Follow this briefly through the dwarf pines, then traverse back to the ridge over a steep grassy slope. Follow this ridge to the start point.

Route: From the start point straight up (4) and belay at two normal bolts. Then continue in easy terrain (1-2) to the second rise, which can be climbed either straight up (4, few bolts) or left (2-3, no bolts). Then steeply continue directly on the ridge (2) to another rock step, which is bypassed slightly on the left (3). The ridge now leans backward until the summit is finally reached on walking terrain.

Descent: Steep marked path back to the starting point. Loose and exposed. Concentration is absolutely required here.
