The Gerstelfluegrat or Gerstelgrat is a perfect Übungsgrat for alpine climbing beginners, because you can vary the route choice depending on your skills. Almost all difficult parts can be avoided and a break-off is possible without any problems, as a hiking trail runs north of the ridge edge. If you consistently stay on the ridge, the climbing difficulties are between II and III, the optional ascent of the Spitzenflüeli is 4a. The ridge is only sparsely equipped with pitons, but the numerous pine trees on the ridge make it easy to set up additional belay points. The Gerstelflue is quite large compared to other Jurassic ridges, so patience is needed in places. .
