Galenstock-Galengrat (P. 3,200 m) SW Wall "Lunar Impulse" VII+/A0 (eTN VII–/VII+)
The "Lunar Impulse" is an independent parallel route to the "Galengrat Dihedral," which we already presented in Topoguide Volume I. In the lower—not quite as attractive—part, it runs somewhat further right through a crack and dihedral line. In the steep reddish summit wall, there is extraordinary rock and equally special climbing.
After the cold start in the first length and the pulse-accelerating grassy ledge traverse, we had to give up very early in the following dihedral due to significantly increased moisture. Clearly, there are too few bolts here, as protection with friends is only difficult and unreliable. By means of a wild maneuver, we therefore fled into the classic route. After all, we did not want to miss the promising upper part. Since the "Galengrat Dihedral" has been renovated three times already by good Swiss mountain spirits, there was new ground to discover for us after 16 years, plus a topo update on top. In hindsight, we were probably lucky in misfortune because the approach via the classic certainly pays off more than the lower botched sections of the "Lunar Impulse." This way, you come in good spirits and warmed up under the spectacular final wall.
