Dampener IX- (VIII- obligatory) on Großer Koppenkarstein (2863m)

Solid steep rock and an impressive line make this route a coveted target for extreme alpine climbers! Well secured at the crucial points, but also some runouts at grade 7 and partly protection with small to medium cams or stoppers required. For the diagonal crack larger cams are advantageous. The belay stations are optimally set up, comfortable abseiling over or along the route is possible (50m double rope!!). The route was established from below between 1992-96 (many “dampers”...), except for the 6th pitch. One of the most beautiful climbs of this difficulty on the “Kopp”! Original comment from the first ascent party: “Unmatched pitches of the finest quality....”. The rock quality (limestone) is good to very good, the protection (bolts, cams) is moderate. Difficulty mostly between 7 and 8-, occasionally 8+, one section 9- (8- obligatory). The belay stations on the topo are color-coded depending on quality and equipment.
