Walserweg Italia
The Walserweg Italia project is a 190 km route created to connect the 12 Italian Walser communities, between Piedmont and Aosta Valley.
190 kilometers in Piedmont and Aosta Valley touching over 200 points of interest that tell, through an exciting walking route, centuries of hardship and achievements accomplished by an extraordinary people: the Walsers.
The Walserweg Italia project is born from the love of the Walser Associations for their territory and thanks to the support of the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo within the call «In luce. Valorizzare e raccontare le identità culturali dei territori», aiming to promote the development of slow tourism capable of promoting the knowledge of local cultures.
Thus arises the Great Walser Path, connecting the cultural identities of territories located between Piedmont and Aosta Valley, a long alpine march internationally connected with Austria, Liechtenstein, France and especially Switzerland, the other countries where the Walser culture has been present for centuries.
Making walkers go through an ancient path, which recalls the daily adventures of men and women hardened by hard work, crossing villages located up to 2000 meters in altitude and with the possibility to stay also in traditional houses, represents an immersive experience not only in the wild nature of high alpine valleys, but above all from a cultural point of view.
