RivierALP Verified partner
All along the itinerary, you'll pass through authentic villages, discover a living heritage, emblematic sites and encounters that give meaning to the journey. Local restaurants, local produce and local know-how punctuate the route, inviting you to explore the area in a different way, beyond the itinerary, through its flavors and its stories.
And the adventure doesn't stop there. RivierAlp is also a fantastic outdoor playground, where you can climb, fly, canyoneer in the gorges and multiply your experiences, between effort, discovery and sensations.
To each his own path, to each his own RivierALP
RivierALP's strength lies first and foremost in its diversity. Short or long itineraries, high mountain crossings and descents to the coast, solitary routes in forgotten valleys and others through villages still inhabited, still alive. You can choose to walk for two days or ten, to start from the sea or to reach it, to follow a border ridge or to follow the course of a river. There isn't just one RivierALP; there are dozens, depending on your mood, your pace and the season.
And yet, some routes are better than others at crystallizing what is most singular about the region. The route linking Limone Piemonte to Menton is one of these. Not just because it's beautiful, but because it tells a story. It begins in the chestnut forests of the Ligurian Alps, crosses Terre Brigasque, that in-between land that was long divided between France and Italy and still bears in its stones an identity like no other, and ends by tilting towards the sea. Menton appears in the distance, first as a light, then as a certainty.
This is what it's like to walk the RivierALP paths: never knowing exactly what you'll find at the next turn - a ruin, a panorama, a face - and trusting in the path ahead.
You don't need to be a seasoned walker. Just have the time, and the desire to use it differently.
Between peaks and sea spray... the call of the RivierALP mountain bike trails
Here, the Alps plunge towards the Mediterranean in a dizzying array of forests, passes and secret valleys. RivierAlp's trails are a permanent invitation: enduro descents where the tires bite into the rock with precision, winding singletracks that demand commitment and a feel for the terrain, cross-country courses that stretch for miles between two cultures. Qualified instructors provide introductory courses for beginners, while experienced riders push their limits on technical sections designed for adrenalin.
In the morning, panniers are loaded, forks adjusted, and the Train des Merveilles takes bikes and mountain bikers to the heights. Up there, it all begins: a first tight hairpin, a natural jump onto a flat, the wheels searching for the ideal trajectory in a larch forest. Specialized shops provide rental and repair services for those who travel light, while accommodation with the "Accueil Vélo" label secures bikes for the night.
And for those who dream big, there's cross-border mountain bike touring: crossing a pass, switching to Italy, linking the valleys between Mercantour and Alpi Marittime. With electric bikes, distances can be extended without excessive effort, opening up the most secret corners of the massif to those who want to explore everything.
Evening falls on the ridges. The golden light touches the Mediterranean below. We savor the moment, our thighs burning and our eyes filled.
