The Bavarian Forest National Park
Boundless forest wilderness in Germany's first national park
"Let nature be nature" is the philosophy and indeed, nowhere else between the Atlantic and the Urals are forests, moors, mountain streams, and lakes allowed to develop into a unique wild forest landscape according to their own natural laws on such a large scale.
The internationally recognized protected area (IUCN Category II) in Lower Bavaria on the border with the Czech Republic is an important refuge for rare animal and plant species such as the capercaillie, lynx, three-toed woodpecker, and many more. Together with the adjacent Czech Šumava National Park, nature can freely unfold over an area of more than 900 km² - without human intervention.
The Bavarian Forest National Park Administration
The Bavarian Forest National Park Administration is a special authority of the Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection, with its office located in 94481 Grafenau. Its tasks are the protection and management of the Bavarian Forest National Park.
