In the particularly charming Holstein landscape with its gentle hills lies the Westensee Nature Park, located in the triangular city area of Kiel, Rendsburg, and Neumünster. In the midst of this magnificent nature, in a typically Holsteinish hedge landscape, one finds babbling streams and rivers, quiet lakes, refreshing forests, green meadows, and manageable fields. The small-scale landscape mosaic is ideal for individual experiences.
Gentle hills and valleys, meadows, forests, lakes, and moors alternate in colorful succession. This applies to all areas, both to the Westensee region and to the area south of the nature park with the Warder, Brahm, Pohl, and Borgdorf lakes, but also to the large moor landscapes in Haßmoor, Katenstedt, and Schülp near Nortorf. Each of these landscape parts has its own character that appeals to different people.
From the second highest elevation of the entire area, the Tüteberg (88.3 m), you can enjoy a fantastic view over the Westensee all the way to Kiel. The highest elevation is the Kieler Berg (94.0 m). This area located directly at Westensee is probably one of the most beautiful parts of the entire nature park.
The diverse landscape of the Westensee Nature Park offers all visitors extensive opportunities for recreational activities. There is a natural landscape with sometimes hidden small lakes with beautiful swimming possibilities, many hiking opportunities through the silence of nature and landscape protection areas, and a signposted network of cycle and riding paths for cyclists and riders. Not to forget the many fishing opportunities at meadows, rivers, and lakes.
