The ski area is located on the northern side of the two mountains Gamserugg and Chäserrugg with their striking, straight-sloping summits. They form the eastern end of the famous seven Churfirsten, an impressive mountain range in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen.

The Toggenburg ski area stretches from 900 to more than 2200 metres above sea level and can be reached from three villages: Wildhaus, Unterwasser and Alt St. Johann. With the Churfirsten peaks at the back and a view of the striking Alpstein massif to the north, advanced skiers in particular can ski well here on mainly red-marked pistes. Freestylers get their money's worth in the fun park or in the deep snow areas. In the valley area there are several children's slopes, but there is also a wide range of activities for families.

Ski/Snowboard

Against the backdrop of the seven white Churfirsten peaks and the mighty Säntis massif, the deep snow-covered winter landscape glistens in the sun. Here untouched nature covered in a thick blanket of snow, there freshly prepared, wide pistes with panoramic views. A sight that enchants.

Thanks to nature and topography alone, Toggenburg is a true paradise for snow sports. The heart of the region is the ski areas in the upper Toggenburg, Wildhaus-Gamserrugg and Chäserrugg-Unterwasser-Alt St. Johann, where everything revolves around winter sports.

In Wildhaus there is a large area for beginners and returning skiers. Everything here is designed for families, while right next door freestyle riders let off steam in the Snowland.ch fun park.

Around the Chäserrugg, the variety of slopes includes everything for connoisseurs. Long and unique descents through idyllic landscapes and breathtaking views tickle the heart of snow sports enthusiasts.

There are many other small ski areas in the area.

In the other small and fine areas in the middle and lower Toggenburg, winter sports enthusiasts will find life on the slopes a little more relaxed on the ski lifts and gentle slopes.

A total of around 80 km of pistes of all levels are available in Toggenburg. In addition, a curling hall, an ice rink, 190 km of winter hiking and snowshoe trails, 15 km of toboggan runs and 50 km of cross-country ski trails invite you to active winter enjoyment away from the hustle and bustle of the piste.

Nordic/Winter hiking

There are a total of 37.5 km of cross-country trails around Wildhaus, Unterwasser and Alt St. Johann, which are groomed for both classic and skating. Trails on impressive plateaus or through dense forests make this sport in Toggenburg particularly attractive. Unterwasser is also the starting point for a 5 km long night trail, which is lit until 9:30 pm on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. On Alp Sellamatt, a 15 km long cross-country ski trail beneath the imposing backdrop of the Churfirsten – offers beautiful panoramic views of the valley and the Alpstein massif.

Parallel to the Sellamatt cross-country ski trail runs the Legend Trail, where winter hikers can immerse themselves in the world of myths and legends of the region at several stations. The high-altitude hiking trail on the Chäserrugg is particularly scenic. There are a total of around 35 km of prepared winter hiking trails leading through the Toggenburg high valley. On snowshoes, there are five marked trails and 13 other snowshoe routes suitable for advanced hikers through the unspoilt winter landscape. Guided tours through the land of the seven mountains are also possible.

Tobogganing enthusiasts will find a 3.5 km long prepared toboggan run from Iltios to Unterwasser. However, the most beautiful toboggan runs can be found at the Gamplüt gondola lift near Wildhaus, where toboggans can also be rented.

Sledging is also possible on the slopes of the Gamplüt gondola.

Winter sports enthusiasts who prefer sporting activities on the mirror-smooth ice surfaces will also get their money's worth in Toggenburg. In addition to the Wildhaus curling centre with its four rinks, an artificial ice rink also awaits its visitors. Ice skates can also be rented there.

skiroutes

Those who prefer to ski in deep snow can choose one of the two marked freeride trails from Iltios down into the valley. The absolute highlight among the ski routes, however, is the 9 km long Galferroute, which leads from Gamserrugg to Grabs and climbs 1600 metres of altitude.
