Routes in Wildeck

A hike with multiple crossings between Hesse and Thuringia, during which two beautiful nature reserves can be admired.

A route with three ascents, one gentle, one acceptable, one challenging.

The Lutherweg 1521 commemorates the route Martin Luther took in 1521 on his way to Worms (and back), when he followed the "invitation" of Emperor Charles V. Not all sections are authentic, but many are, as the route follows centuries-old trade and military roads.

Initially flat, the path passes the Rhäden nature reserve. South of Hönebach, it then ascends. The Thuringian village of Großensee is almost completely circled.

This stage runs largely directly along the former border between the FRG and the GDR.

Ideal for extensive birdwatching - great hike through a bird sanctuary at the former inner-German border.

The European long-distance path E6 is an ambitious project that is intended to run continuously from northern Finland to Turkey. On the German section, we hike with gradually increasing ascents from north to south.
