Sporty gravel bike route around Nuremberg

This is the official route of the Megamarsch Nürnberg 2024 presented by Columbia. 

The path follows the Palatine Jakobsweg Prague - Tillyschanz - Hohenburg - Rothenburg/T.. This route goes through forested areas and touches only a few villages. Nevertheless, the hike is very varied.

Walk through the nature reserve of the former military training area

The Way of St. James is the path of enlightenment, a journey to oneself. Nowadays, more and more people are looking for a way to escape the hectic everyday life. Slowing down, finding peace, recharging – this is especially possible while pilgrimaging.

BETHANG is an art project by the artist Karsten Neumann and unites the cities of Nuremberg, Fürth and Erlangen as a large metropolis. An interesting route circles them.

The stages located in HeilbronnerLand on the "Burgenstraße" cycle route lead from the edge of the Odenwald through the Neckar Valley and the Weinsberg Valley to Öhringen in the Hohenlohe region.

The Way of St. James from Nuremberg via Heilsbronn to Rothenburg connects the two Way of St. James junctions Nuremberg and Rothenburg and is an important feeder route towards Ulm/Konstanz

Wallenstein’s Camp and the green cloverleafThese two markers take turns guiding us about halfway through this tour. In 1632, the imperial commander Albrecht von Wallenstein had the largest military encampment in world history erected just outside the gates of Nuremberg to stand up to the Swedish troops under King Gustav II Adolf. The camp stretched across the area now occupied by the towns of Zirndorf, Oberasbach, and Stein, and for 70 days housed around 80,000 people and 15,000 horses. The Battle of the Alte Veste ended in a stalemate; there was no victor. For the local population at the time, however, the fighting—along with the accompanying looting and epidemics—was devastating. To this day, Wallenstein’s camp has left its mark on the landscape. The cloverleaf, on the other hand, represents the Fürth Nature Trail, which winds through the Fürth and Zirndorf municipal forests. The clear highlights along the trail are the old quarry sites, where Burgsandstein was quarried for centuries. All in all, it’s an extremely diverse tour—one you wouldn’t necessarily expect to find right in the middle of an urban metropolitan area.
