A Gerecse déli részének legjobb kilátóhelye a 447 m magas Somlyó, amely nemcsak panorámája, hanem szavannai hangulata miatt is egyedülálló helyszín.
A Somlyó lapos, kupolaszerű csúcsa körül terjedelmes lejtősztyeppréten kanyarog az ösvény. A kis képzelőerővel ligetes szavannai tájra emlékeztető jelleget nyáron a tűző nap és a hőség erősíti. Föntről elsősorban a Vértesen, a Tatabánya fölötti hegyeken, a Nagy-Gerecsén és környező medencéin hordozhatjuk végig tekintetünket, de felismerhetjük a Pes-kő sziklafalát is.

A Somlyó neve egyesek szerint a csúcsot egykor borító somfákra emlékeztet, de a „somló” szó más források szerint kopasz, az erdőből kiemelkedő csúcsot is jelölhet, amiért a fakitermelés és a legeltetés lehetett a felelős.

A Somlyó oldalára vezető turistautakban kihívás élvezetet lelni: az egyébként is apró erdőtömb kizárólag gazdasági célokat szolgál, a szó szoros értelmében vett természet csak nyomokban maradt meg ezen a tájon. Széles fakihordó kövesutak, vágásfoltok, fiatalosok váltakoznak a hegy lejtőin.

Directions

  • Tarjánból a P jelzésen jutunk fel a Somlyó oldalába, ahol jobbra kell térni a K▲ jelzésre, amely a csúcsra vezet (7,3 km, 314 m szintemelkedés).
  • Csabdiban sétáljunk tovább a faluközpont felé a buszmegállótól, ahol pedig térjünk jobbra a P jelzésre. Ez vezet a Somlyó oldalába, ahonnan balra, a K▲ jelzésre fordulva jutunk a csúcsra (10,9 km, 364 m szintemelkedés).
  • Szárligetről a K jelzés vezet a csúcs oldalába, majd a K▲ jelzés a csúcsra (14,3 km, 392 m szintemelkedés).

Parking

  • Tarjánban a Kenderesi utca végén, vagy a célponttól távolabb, a Rákóczi Ferenc utcán, a templomnál parkolhatunk.
  • Csabdiban a focipálya mellett parkolhatunk.
  • Szárligeten a vasútállomás mellett parkoló található.
