Structured in recent years and still subject to ongoing improvements, the Caminho Nascente is the best way to learn the history of Beira Interior and its many unique features.
From the Albicastrense plain to dominant points over the landscape in the Gardunha and Estrela mountains, the path is wild, solitary, tough and … breathtaking. One walks through the streets of only three major urban clusters – Castelo Branco, Fundão and Guarda –, and the entire rest of the path is done with eyes on the horizon, between dizzying ascents and descents. The passage through Castelo Novo, Alpedrinha, Belmonte and Colmeal da Torre are remarkable surprises that highlight the historical and heritage density of this path. But the best is to do it all, from the banks of the Tagus River, in Vila Velha de Ródão, to the Portas d’el Rei, in Trancoso.
