Walking along the arteries that carry water pumped by the heart of Serra da Lousã, through an extensive network of levadas that crisscross cultivated lands and the village itself, is a luxury accessible to almost everyone
Walking to the top of Safra, flying over the Quelhas stream (and the walkway) like a falcon searching for food, winding through the slopes with a privileged view of the sky and mountain peaks, is a slightly more challenging gift, but perfectly achievable. This is a journey between heaven and earth, guided by water and stones, with breathtaking landscapes.
The circular route starts at the base of the Quelhas Walkway, near Coentral Grande.
Moving clockwise, following the extensive network of levadas that cross the cultivated lands, through monumental vegetation, we are led to Vale
Silveira which, fed by the Coentral Grande stream, reveals a cinematographic splendor scene. Already on the ascent towards the sky, halfway up the slope, at the top of the
embankment, marks of ox cart wheels reveal part of the old road's stretch.
After the final right turn, a multicolored low carpet opens the way to the upper platform of the amphitheater. Ahead, for those who wish to shorten the trip, the right path allows a return to the starting point via the Quelhas Walkway.
Following the forest road, turning the slope, a privileged view opens over the large wooden serpent climbing the rocky escarpment. Farther back, crowned by a lush crown, the Coentrais reveal their splendor. Walking along Safra, the landscape gains new actors: schist gives way to granite, with rock blocks arranged along the slope. After the descent, returning to the earth, another serpent inside the forest leads to the end of the journey.
