Also known as Lake Castel Gandolfo, Lake Albano is located between the towns of Albano Laziale and Castel Gandolfo in the Castelli Romani area.
Lake Albano is divided from nearby Lake Nemi by Mount Cavo (949 m) and is part of the Colli Albani volcanic complex, known as the Laziale Volcano, and the Castelli Romani Regional Nature Park. It has an elliptical shape and measures 3.5 km long and 2.8 km wide. With a maximum depth of almost 170 meters, Lake Albano is the deepest volcanic lake in Italy.
On its shores are some archaeological remains dating from prehistoric and Roman times. The most important is the Villaggio delle Macine, a Bronze Age pile-dwelling settlement.
Here you can go hiking, biking and mountain biking, sailing and canoeing, or relax on one of the equipped beaches or go fishing.
