It is one of the oldest Waldensian temples in Italy. The first building was built in 1555, but it was destroyed and rebuilt several times following the persecutions suffered by the Waldensian people between the 16th and 17th centuries. The present building dates from 1708 and has remained virtually unchanged to this day. Several officers of Swiss and Alemannic regiments who were in the service of the House of Savoy during the 18th century rest in it, the best known of them all being Baron von Leutrum, who specifically asked to be buried there, having refused to convert to Catholicism until the point of death.
