Impressive fortress located in Venosa, in the province of Potenza
The Aragonese Castle was built in the 15th century at the behest of Duke Pirro del Balzo during Aragonese rule. It later became a stately home and Renaissance elements such as the inner loggia were added, and in the 17th century it also housed the Accademia dei Rinascenti.
Surrounded by a moat, the building has a square plan with four cylindrical towers and a courtyard surrounded by a Renaissance loggia.
Today, the castle houses the National Museum of Venosa, where exhibits from the Roman city of Venusia can be seen.
