Author’s recommendation
- The hike can also be combined with the Geotrail Laas (parts of the route follow the same path).
- The tours in and around Einsiedlwald (e.g. RW_N56 or WW_N22) can also be very well combined with the circular hike.
- A very nice extension option is also the hike from Röthenkreuz further up to the Mussenhöhe.

Roadbook
From the church in Laas, you head east along the paved side road (towards Kötschach) and turn right before the Laaser Bach. The route then runs close to the forest edge straight ahead, passing the next two intersections slightly to the right/straight, until you reach a house on a clearing. After the house, the trail leads left, uphill through a forest section and then over a large open area uphill to the hamlet of Maierle.
The path runs between two buildings and finally joins the paved side road, from which a shortcut soon branches off leading to the Ödenhütte. At the first junction, in the forest area after the Ödenhütte, you hike left - shortening the forest road - uphill until you reach the forest road again at about 1,240 meters and follow it to the right (uphill) to the Röthenkreuz.
Arriving at the large fork with crosses and benches, you turn right and hike down the forest road from here. The route leads via several hairpin bends towards Gailberghöhe - shortly before reaching the B110, a trail branches sharply right (southern direction) parallel to the B110, which you follow. Then you cross the B110, pass the Blahaus, and at the following intersection, turn left. The path then runs below the Pittersberg ruin towards Laas, passing the old power plant (not far from the petrified tree). You reach the L28 intersection and follow the road to the right, back to the starting point at the church.
Public transport
Public-transport-friendly
The most sustainable travel option is by train to Oberdrauburg (coming from Lienz or Villach) or to Hermagor (coming from Villach).
From Oberdrauburg, you can then reach the town of Laas by bus.
From Hermagor, take the bus to Kötschach-Mauthen and change here to the bus line towards Oberdrauburg to then reach the town of Laas.
