Marine protected area surrounding Gaiola, a minor island in the Gulf of Naples, located opposite Posillipo.
Why is it called an underwater park? Because on the seabed there is a real treasure, consisting of archaeological finds from the Roman era, which ended up underwater due to the volcanic phenomenon of bradyseism. In the park you can snorkel, dive and take kayak or transparent-bottom boat trips to admire this underwater treasure, as well as a rich and varied flora and fauna. The park's beach is one of the most beautiful and peaceful in the city of Naples.
From the coast, it is easy to reach Gaiola by swimming. On the islet, actually consisting of two rocks joined by a narrow bridge, is a villa built in the 19th century. In the past, the Gaiola had a bad reputation among the locals: it was said to bring bad luck to its owners. Today, however, it is the perfect setting for those who come here to enjoy the breathtaking landscape and crystal-clear sea.
