One of the city's most famous streets, known worldwide as the "street of nativity scenes"
Via San Gregorio Armeno is dotted with ancient workshops of artisans who handcraft Neapolitan nativity figurines, both traditional ones and those depicting contemporary characters, such as soccer players, actors and politicians.
The street has Roman origins and stands on the ruins of a temple dedicated to the goddess Ceres. In the 10th century a monastery was built where the relics of St. Gregory bishop of Armenia, after whom the street is named, were brought.
Via San Gregorio Armeno is open year-round and attracts a large number of visitors.
Opening times
The road is open year-round. It is recommended to visit early in the morning or evening and to avoid weekends, as there can be a lot of crowds at certain times. Pay attention to the opening and closing times of the stores.
